About the Series
A Banquet for Hungry Ghosts is an adult horror animation anthology, inspired by the book by Ying Chang Compestine: four ghost stories, each served as a dish at a banquet for hungry ghosts. Egg Fried Rice, Hot Pot, Beef Noodles and Tang Yuan, and the hunger behind each one.
The stories move across Asia and across very different kinds of horror: 1920s China, present-day Singapore, Jakarta in 1979 and a fishing village in 1950s Taiwan. Presiding over them all is the spirit host, part storyteller, part judge. When each story ends, a ghost takes its place at the banquet table.
Made by Robot Playground Media, the studio behind The Violinist, winner of the Cristal for Best Feature Film at Annecy 2026.
